The Ujima Foundation runs a therapeutic residential facility and day treatment program for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13 — children who need a steady, supportive place to land while they work through some of life's harder chapters. What surrounds them during that time isn't just a backdrop. It shapes how safe they feel, how valued they feel, and how well they can focus on growing.
That's what this project is all about.
This SXM Doet, volunteers will roll up their sleeves and help transform key areas of the Ujima facility into spaces that feel clean, dignified, and truly worthy of the young people who use them every day. On the agenda: laying new ceramic tile flooring in the counselor's office alongside a professional tiler — creating a hygienic, welcoming space where children can feel comfortable seeking support. The boys' bathroom and bedroom will get a fresh coat of paint, lifting both the look and the feel of spaces that should offer comfort and privacy. A series of minor repairs will round things out, making sure every corner of the facility is safe, functional, and well cared for.

It's the kind of work that doesn't always make headlines, but the kind a child notices the moment they walk into a room: someone cared enough to make this nice for me.
Community doesn't just show up in big moments: it shows up in fresh paint, clean floors, and a repaired door that closes properly. This is your chance to be part of that.
Whether you can tile, paint, fix things, or simply show up ready to work — there's a place for you on this team.
