About SXM DOET

On Friday March 10th and Saturday March 11th of 2023, Be The Change Foundation in cooperation with the Oranje Fonds will bring to you, the ninth edition of SXM DOET, the largest volunteer event on Sint Maarten, and in the Kingdom.

SXM DOET: Sint Maarten's national volunteer event

Be The Change Foundation and the Oranje Fonds are proud to bring you the ninth edition of SXM DOET on March 10 & 11, 2023.

The DOET initiative started within the Kingdom over 18 years ago, firstly in the Netherlands, with the Dutch Caribbean islands joining in shortly thereafter. Today there is NLdoet (The Netherlands), ARUBA DOET (Aruba), BON DOET (Bonaire), CURA DOET (Curaçao), STATIA DOET (St. Eustatius) and SXM DOET (Sint Maarten). These initiatives highlight volunteering as well as volunteers themselves, while encouraging every one to roll up their sleeves for (part of) a day, giving everyone a fulllfilling and gratifying feeling of a day well spent, ensuring that community serving organizations get the help they need and deserve.

Heart and Soul

Volunteers are the heart and soul of community organizations and SXM DOET and the Oranje Fonds are emphasizing the importance for our community to have actively engaged citizens helping to make a difference as one whole unit. What’s more is that SXM DOET is on a mission to help improve the general idea of volunteering and community service by showing how fun and creative it can really be.

Giving back, safely

For the past 2 years, SXM DOET saw some significant adjustments and changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however we still saw high levels of support for our island's NGOs and NPOs. This year, while we wish to see hundreds of volunteers come out to give back, we wish for it to be done safely and with the utmost level of care for our and each other's health. Sign up as a volunteer today as an individual or as a close family or friend group!

The Oranje Fonds & Be The Change Foundation

The Oranje Fonds is the biggest national fund in the arena of social well-being and showcases the best the Kingdom has to offer. Around €30 million euros are spent each year supporting organizations and initiatives that strengthen social cohesion in The Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are the official patrons of the Fund, as the organization was gifted to them on their wedding day in 2002. For more information visit www.oranjefonds.nl

Be The Change Foundation (BTC) is non-profit organization that supports the financing of programs and projects of various organizations and also engages in beautification projects for the betterment of our communities.  BTC also encourages volunteerism, “volun-tourism”, and philanthropy in the Sint Maarten community. Each year, the organization hands out academic scholarships through their Erika Cannegieter-Smith Dream Big Scholarship Program. Visit www.bethechangesxm.com for more information.

Does your company support the largest volunteer event on St. Maarten?

In order to execute all of the projects on March 10th and 11th, the participating organizations need a lot of resources. This may include materials such as paint, wood and gloves, or seedlings for a community garden, but also light drinks and snacks to provide to the volunteers.
