The Foundation of Judicial & Institutional Services (SJIS) has been part of Sint Maarten's justice and care system since 2002. Among its responsibilities is the Youth Residential Home: a facility that provides shelter, structure, and support for children in care. It's a place where young people navigate some of life's harder moments, and every effort to make it feel more like a home matters.
This SXM Doet, we're building something tangible, and something that will be used every single day. Volunteers will construct and paint an outdoor picnic roundtable that comfortably seats six, designed to become a natural gathering spot for the young residents. We will also make some shoeracks
A place to share meals, work through homework, play games, and simply sit together and talk. And a place to store your shoes when reaching home. It sounds simple, but a well-designed, welcoming outdoor space or a space to store your things can do a lot for a child's sense of belonging and routine.
