Fort Amsterdam invasive weed initiative

Fort Amsterdam invasive weed initiative
EPIC Sint Maarten is an environmental conservation organisation that has been working to protect and restore Sint Maarten's natural environment for over 20 years. From restoring seabird habitats and monitoring pelican populations to planting mangroves and educating the next generation, EPIC is dedicated to making sure our island's ecosystems thrive for years to come. And this SXM Doet, they need your help at one of Sint Maarten's most iconic spots:

Want to protect our pelicans? We need your help! We will be at Fort Amsterdam on DOET Friday helping to make the place a safe and healthy environment for our national bird. We will be removing invasive grass to help our native plants grow and provide better habitat for the birds and other animals.
Fort Amsterdam — a historic landmark and home to Sint Maarten's national bird, the brown pelican — is being taken over by invasive grass that is crowding out the native plants that birds and other wildlife depend on. Left unchecked, this threatens the very habitat that makes Fort Amsterdam such a special place for nature and people alike.

It's a hands-on, outdoors volunteer experience with a very real and visible impact. No experience needed — just wear comfortable clothes, slap on some sunscreen, and come ready to get your hands dirty for a great cause.
