Play is often defined as children’s work. It is through play that children organize and make sense of the world. Play also helps children work through tensions in their lives. Play brings out children’s creativity and so much more. Due to the current pandemic, we as a school have acknowledged the need and importance more than ever for ways and means to promote social distancing whilst still allowing necessary play for our students. In order to do this, we have decided to create a playground made of tires that will be large enough for social distancing. This playground will be able to accomodate more than one class at a time as well. The plan for this project will be to collect as many used tires from the various tire centers that we can and have them painted. We will need to create a few stable structures to mount the tires on to in order to create swings, monkey bars, balancing beams, tire climbers, seesaws, tire tunnels and so much more. We will need to first and foremost ensure the safety of the students that will be using the playground and so we will need proper materials to get the job done safely.
