This year Animal Defenders wants to focus more on the root of the pet overpopulation problem on Sint Maarten. We see too many puppies being dumped in boxes at the vets, or unwanted dogs and cats roaming the streets. Possibilities for spay operations at reduced cost are available, but unfortunately not many make use of this opportunity. We have also seen in increase after hurricane Irma. So this year we will be going into the community to reach out to families with pets, we will knock on doors and talk to the people, explain about the importance of spay and neuter and give advise on how to take (better) care of their pets. We will start with Sucker Garden. We will split up in small groups and our main task will be to inform and give advise to as many households as possible. We will hand out flyers with useful information and note names and phone numbers in order to do a follow up on the spay and neuter appointments.

We hope to reach as many households in Sucker Garden as possible and to inform them on the importance of animal birth control. Our main goal is to prevent suffering and we the only way is to tackle to overpopulation problem Instead of waiting on people reaching out to us, we want to reach them they need to know that (financial)help is available. So that will be our main focus on March 16.
