Beautifying Bell's Lookout Point with Yellow Sage

The Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise is organizing a planting event at the Bell Lookout Point. On location, volunteers will be split into groups to facilitate a light clean up of the area. We will need help carrying all the materials to the work area. Planting will be done mostly on the south and east side of the lookout point. Volunteers will be asked to bring their own gardening tools such as shovels, hoes, gloves and trowels. There is very limited shade so it is also advised to wear a hat and sunscreen. Closed-toe, comfortable shoes should also be worn. The plants, soil, water and some other materials will be provided. Kids aged 12+ are welcome. All volunteers will also be served a light breakfast and drinks. The plant we have chosen is the Yellow Sage, which is St Maarten’s national flower. It is an important part of our national heritage, however, it is much less common than it once was and many are not familiar with it. The plant is native to the island and can grow in the toughest conditions which make it perfect for the lookout point. Its extensive roots also help with potential erosion and strengthen the ground around the lookout point. Finally, its beautiful flowers will add to the picturesque view and add a cultural element to the already significant site.
